Hatha Yoga
In Hatha Yoga, the instructor guides the practitioners to find their own balance between physical effort and non-violence. This is a balanced practice, and although the physical component occupies most of the class, other techniques complement the student's progress. We speak of Shatkarma (body cleansing exercises), Pranayama (breathing exercises), Yoga Nidra (conscious relaxation), Upasana Yoga (meditation) and Mantra (introspective sounds for the purpose of remembering a concept or principle of yoga).
At Yoga Shankara we use different props - such as cork blocks and belts - to help the student not only to achieve the many asanas (postures), but also to get a real alignment and postural correction.
